Different Types of Baking Soda Shampoo

When it comes to driving away dandruff and stopping hair loss, baking soda can be used in a number of ways. We tell you three most common methods to include baking soda in your hair care routine:

Method 1:

This is the simplest method of using baking soda on your locks and getting rid of dandruff as well as excessive hair fall.

Ingredients:
Baking soda – 2 to 3 tablespoons
Lukewarm water – a cup

Steps:
Put the baking soda in the cup of lukewarm water.
Keep stirring until a lump-free mixture is formed.
Apply it carefully all over your scalp and massage with your fingertips gently.
Let it sit for next couple of minutes.
Rinse off with fresh cold water.

Method 2:

Washing hair with the mixture of baking soda and a mild herbal shampoo can be very effective in curing dandruff and reducing hair fall.

Ingredients:
Baking soda – (1/2) tablespoon
Herbal shampoo – pea-sized amount

Steps:
Pick any good herbal shampoo and pour a pea-sized amount of it onto your palm.
Add baking soda to it.
Mix well with your fingers.
Apply the mixture to your hair as regular shampoo.
Rinse well with plain water.

Method 3:

The best way to wash your hair with baking soda is to balance its pH with an apple cider vinegar rinse afterwards.

Ingredients:
Baking soda – 2 to 3 tablespoons
Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV) – 4 to 5 drops
Water – 1 mug

Steps:
Take a cup of water and add baking soda to it.
Stir well to prepare a lump-free concoction.
Rub your scalp carefully with it. Be gentle throughout the process.
After 2-3 minutes, wash off with plain water.
Now, add apple cider vinegar to rest of water in the mug.
Blend well.
Rinse your washed hair with it.

Does Apple Cider Vinegar Help to Treat Dandruff

Wednesday, February 17, 2016

Out of all those available natural ingredients to get rid of dandruff issue, apple cider vinegar works best. But, here, one question comes to our mind and that is – what makes apple cider vinegar so useful to treat dandruff? Let's find out!

Antibacterial: Apple cider vinegar is loaded with natural probiotics, which makes it antibacterial and anti-inflammatory in nature. So its use kills the bacteria and fungus that cause dandruff. It also prevents the reoccurrence of dandruff issues.

Anti-inflammatory: The anti-inflammatory properties of apple cider vinegar soothe the irritated scalp that is caused due to dandruff. It also reduces the inflammation of the scalp.

Restores the Moisture Level: The acidic content of the apple cider vinegar restores the moisture content of the scalp, which in turn controls the growth of fungus on the scalp. Its acidic content also maintains the pH balance of the skin, thus its use removes the build up from the scalp without removing the natural oil.

No Chemicals: Apple cider vinegar is free of chemicals. So, its regular use will not cause any damage to the scalp and at the same time will cure the dandruff issue effectively.

Opens Clogged Hair Follicles: Apart from all these above mentioned dandruff-fighting properties, apple cider vinegar also contains various enzymes that open the clogged hair follicles. This process, in turn, makes the scalp healthy and keeps dandruff at the bay.

2. Swap your highlighter for Vaseline. Just dab a small amount on the high points of your face for a dewy, naturally luminous glow.

3. Put a little Vaseline on your teeth and never get lipstick on them again!

4. Fix a scuff on a patent leather shoe with a cotton swab and some petroleum jelly.

5. Apply Vaseline to your cuticles before polishing your nails to keep color off of the skin around your nails.

6. Give your eyelashes some air and rest. Some people also swear that Vaseline has made their eyelash grow!

7. Fix a stuck zipper with a cotton swab and petroleum jelly.

8. If you rub a little Vaseline on your wrists and neck, it'll help your perfume stick around.

9. Rub your lobes with a little Vaseline before putting your earrings in to avoid any pain.

10. Use Vaseline as a makeup remover in a pinch.

11. Soften dry or cracked elbows suffering from winter's lack of moisture.

Product Review: Original Mane ‘n Tail Shampoo

Friday, May 8, 2015

I always find a new product for my hair loss problem and never give up finding a product that suits my hair situation. And it's been so many years. Tried so many products already. So, this time around, I'm gonna try a product called Mane 'n Tail which I came across few months back. After doing research regarding this product, I decided to give their shampoo a try.

Mane 'n Tail shampoo
A little bit about this product. Originally, the product was created on the Katzev family horse farm in rural New Jersey. Straight Arrow was born when Mr. Katzev's parents created Original Mane 'n Tail Shampoo and Conditioner that were specifically targeted for show horses with long flowing manes and tails. Yes, for horses... Even cats and dogs. Many groomers choose these products for use in their shops. Does it sound funny to you so far, haha?!! I was skeptical at first, too. So, I did a bit more research into the success of the product from fellow bloggers' perspective. And, no worries, nowadays, their products can be used safely on humans as well as animals and lots of people are using this product.

After a month of using their shampoo, I am beyond impressed!! Not only help my hair grow faster, but it has also dramatically improve my hair loss problem. The results are phenomenal and instant!! Ever since I use it, my hair didn't fall so much anymore. Yes,  I know that this is a matter of opinion and some people just won't believe that when I said instant... hehe (you should try it for yourself )

This shampoo is safe for permed (like me), relaxed or color treated hair. It cleanses hair thoroughly, yet will not strip natural oils. I haven't tried their conditioner though... Their conditioner has an exclusive botanical oil based formula which helps repair the negative effects of these chemical processes.

Psstt!! Celebs such as Sarah Jessica Parker and Jennifer Anniston are big fans of this product and even go as far as to say that it is a beauty secret :)

Temporary Make Up for Hair!

Monday, January 19, 2015

L’Oréal Professionnel Hairchalk (click to enlarge)
One of the hottest hair trends of the year and showing no signs of slowing down is the craze for bold and brightly coloured hair. L’Oréal has unveil their new temporary hair colour: L’Oréal Professionnel Hairchalk. Yes, I called it make up for hair ;)

Launching recently (early last year if not mistaken) in salons and online, L’Oréal Professionnel Hairchalk comes in five bold, show-stopping shades and three more subtle, sophisticated tones. The hair chalk range is inspired by the way we accessorise with make-up and nails, allowing us to change hair shades as often as we do our shoes! Bold on both blondes and brunettes, the eight shades consist of Sweet Sixteen pink, First Date Violet, Blue Ocean Cruise, Garden Party, Coral Sunset, Bronze Beach, Coffee Break and Black Tie.

Ok, I've tried this hairchalk recently. And I've been desperate to try it out myself even though I know that my hair is gonna fall ever since I gave birth to my first child. I've been a little wary of coloring my hair since then. It's super-easy to do it.

For this whole process, it took me less than 30 minutes to complete it. My hair is thin, I guess. I dyed the ends of my hair to create an ombre look as I love love love ombre hairstyles. This hairchalk lasts an average of 2 or more shampoos depending on the amount of product applied and also your hair type. To remove hairchalk faster, apply shampoo on dry hair and work the coloured area.

What I don't like about this product is that, it makes my hair tangly, hard, unmanageable and super dry at the ends. It's hard to comb my hair after my first wash. You can use conditioner to make your hair softer. And you can also apply baby oil after washing ;)

Before I started doing my hair, I watched this video and see how to get things done:

How to Get Smooth and Soft Hands

Wednesday, December 3, 2014

What you need:
One tablespoon of olive oil (or coconut oil would be fabulous for this, too) and two tablespoons of sugar

Step 1
Pour olive oil and sugar into your hand

Step 2
Rub the mixture in between your palms to combine and then spread it all over my hands as if you are washing your hands with soap

Step 3
Working in little circular motions all over your hands. This is to scrub off all that dead skin. You can take it up your arm a bit, too. Scrub a little on your cuticles (if it's dry) as it helps to soften them.

Step 4
Allow a few minutes and then rinse with lukewarm water

Step 5
Apply lotion as needed throughout the day to protect that new skin.

You'll be amazed with the difference in your hands. Do this twice a week.

Good luck XOXO

Nourish Your Skin With Antioxidant-Rich Foods

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

Did you know that eating a diet rich in antioxidants is not only good for your health, it's actually great for your skin too. But what are antioxidants? By definition, antioxidants such as vitamins A and C are substances that can help prevent the effects of free radical damage in the body. In other words, antioxidants can neutralize the process of oxidation and cellular damage which contributes to aging and disease. The body does not produce antioxidants, but it requires a variety of antioxidants to help neutralize free radicals. Thus we need to consume foods that contain these ingredients.

What is the impact to our body if it lacks antioxidants? The simplest example is taking an apple, eating only half, leave it at room temperature and observe the changes. Apple transformed into brown caused by the process of oxidation byproduct of free radicals. This also occurs in the body by free radicals which are produced by the body through free radical reactions biochemical. However, too much will bring harm to the body. Other factors such as smoking, drinking alcohol, acids, sunlight, exposure to radiation and environmental pollution will produce more free radicals in the body.

In fact, the kurma are also rich in vitamin A, which is antioxidants to keep skin healthy and beautiful.

2. Raisin

Raisins are actually green or black grapes that are dried. Indeed, grapes are also rich in antioxidants high. Phenolic Phytonutrients contained raisins functioning in killing germs, antibiotics and antioxidants in skin care.

Proper Way to Apply Perfume

Monday, September 22, 2014

Almost all women and men are fond of wearing perfume. Wearing perfume can somewhat increase the look and confidence because you know that you smell wonderful. But, how to make perfume scent lasts longer? Knowing the right way to apply perfume helps ensure the best possible result.

There are several ways you can maintain to make perfume scent lasts longer:

1. Apply Perfume Right After Shower
Apply perfume right after shower is the best way to maintain its scent. You don't want to stain your clothes and jewelry, do you? Remember that some perfumes can stain clothes and jewelry easily. If you use perfume directly on the body, it will be activated by the body's natural heat. Therefore, the fragrant smell will remain much longer. So, spritz some on your skin after drying off and before putting on your clothes.

2. Spray, Rather Than Rubbing
It is not recommended to rub perfume because the act of brushing can destroy the scent molecules, resulting in a distinct odor. Instead, just spray perfume, about 15-25 cm from the skin. Lightly-sprayed smell will spread evenly on the body.

3. Where To Spray?
Ever wonder why people put perfume on their wrists and neck? These are your body's "pulse points" (your inner arms and the backs of your knees and ears are the others). Pulse points emit the most heat, allowing the perfume to diffuse out from the body. However, less is more. You don't want to over spray, so pick one or two key places and spritz each one once or twice.

4. Moisten The Skin Before Applying
Scientific studies show perfume smells more lasting on oily skin, as compared to dry skin. Many people look at an oily skin as a problem, but it has the advantage of which it can retain the smell of perfume longer. Therefore, if you have dry skin, moisten first or you can apply unscented lotion before spraying. Perfume lasts longer when your skin is hydrated.

5. Save Fragrance In The Right Place
Protect your perfume from moisture, heat and light. Preferably a place that is a cool and dry, away from direct sunlight. Moreover, buy perfume spray bottle is encouraged as it will help to prevent evaporation and aroma chemical reaction to air.

Face Shapes and Eyebrows

Friday, September 5, 2014

Eyebrows are like a picture frame to decorate your eyes. The right frame certainly makes your eyebrows and entire face look more interesting. Despite the constantly changing shapes due to current fashion and trends, the basic formation remains the same. Eyebrow shape must always be longer than the eye, so that your face will look balanced. The right eyebrows can make your face look sexier, younger and more beautiful. If your brows aren't in shape, you might end up looking dull or worried. As a makeup artist myself for many years, I've always told my clients that eyebrows are the most important facial feature. And, always make sure that they get the right eyebrows for their face shapes. When you look good, you will always feel good!

How to determine your face shape?
Very simple. Start by pulling your hair back from your face, and with no makeup on, look closely in the mirror.

Generally there are 6 types of faces, such as oval, long, heart, round, square and diamond.

1. Oval Face Shape
This is an ideal face shape and the most favourable face shape as it is compatible with all forms of eyebrows and even hairstyles. This face shape gracefully tapers toward chin. Has wider forehead and prominent cheekbones.

2. Round Face Shape
Round face shape has almost the same width and length while the cheekbones are the widest part of the face.

Solution:
To make round face appear to be longer is to create a high arch eyebrows shape. Avoid rounded brow as it makes the face more round.

3. Long Face Shape
A long face shape has a long proportion to the width. This face shape gracefully taper toward chin. Some have prominent chin.

Solution:
As your face already long, you don't want your face look more longer than that. A flat eyebrow shape can shortens a long face shape.

4. Square Face Shape
Forehead, cheekbones and jawline for square face shape has almost the same width. Square and bony jawline is prominent feature.

Solution:
Start with the curved eyebrows shape then add more angle to create balance. The stronger and more bony the jawline is the more angled brow shape should be created.

5. Heart Face Shape
This face shape strongly taper toward chin. Chin tend to be pointy and forehead maybe a prominent feature.

Solution:
Forehead maybe the widest of the face. Depend on how prominent of the forehead, start with a low arch, round curved brows then add more volume to it as it adds more length to the forehead as well as balancing the pointy chin.

6. Diamond Face Shape
Face highly angular and somewhat bony. Widest at temples and not as common compare to others.

Solution:
A curved eyebrows shape will soften the angled face and reduce the widest part of the face temples.

My cuticles before applying OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go
I suffer from super-dry and ragged cuticles and fingertips. With all these, it ruins the entire look of my fingers and nails. For me, healthy and manicured cuticles are not just a matter of fashion. Contrary to what some people may think, cuticles are not piles of dead skin that gathers at the base of the nail. They are living parts of the skin that serve an important purpose. Cuticles are attached to the nails and help keep them healthy by protecting them from bacterial and fungal infections. When the cuticle becomes dry, it can't attach to the nail to do its job. This leaves the nail vulnerable to damage and infection.

However, you can care for your cuticles to keep them looking nice. When your nails and cuticles become dry and ragged, this is the time when you need a cuticle oil to moisturize them. This little tube is a lifesaver - OPI Avoplex Cuticle Oil to Go. I love this product and my cuticles need it so much! Whenever my cuticles start to get dry, I will apply it. Ever since I started using this oil, I rarely have dry cuticles. My cuticles are moisturised and my nails look more healthier. Even though it's greasy but it sinks in almost immediately. I love the smell of this oil, too. This tube lasts for a long time as you only need to use it in a very small amount. For those who suffer from dry cuticles, remember to keep one in your handbag or purse as it won't go everywhere if it's in your handbag or purse. It really is convenient for "on the go" just as it claims!

Different Types of Perfume

Wednesday, August 20, 2014

We often see a variety of perfumes in the market and they tend to be sold at different price points. And, sometimes the labeling of the perfumes can be very confusing. It's important to understand the different types of perfumes and the meaning of the terms, which is why you may see Pure Perfume or Parfum, Eau de Parfum (EDP), Eau de Toilette (EDT), Eau de Cologne, and Eau Fraiche label on the perfumes as it allows you to select the type of perfumes you want to buy in the future. The most common way to describe a perfume is perhaps considering its concentration level, or more specifically, to see how much high grade alcohol and/or water has been added to the perfume oils.

Here's the terminology and general concentration level of each scent strength:

Perfume (Pure Perfume) or Parfum
This is the most highly concentrated or purest type of fragrance that lasts all day with least application. As such, it is also the most expensive. A Parfum will contain 20% percent or more (typically up to 30 percent) of the essential fragrance.

Eau de Parfum (EDP)
This is the second most concentrated type of fragrance that lasts up to 4-5 hours. Only slightly less potent (and expensive) than Parfum. It contains 15-12% perfume essence concentration. There is no need to spray a lot of it as it is quite strong as mentioned and lasts for a long time.

Eau de Toilette (EDT)
This is more concentrated and most popular type. It lasts up to 2-3 hours. It contains 5-15% of concentration which makes it lighter than EDP. Has a delicate fragrance and is a good choice for everyday wear. This is also a light scent designed for shorter wear on the skin.

Eau de Cologne (EDC)
This is the least concentrated amongst the four levels fragrance. Eau de Cologne is the most vulnerable and often marketed to men. It contains 2-4% of concentration and generally lasts up to 2 hours. It is close to an aftershave and apparently a more popular choice as it is more gentle on the skin.

Eau Fraiche
This is the feminine term used for women's eau de cologne concentrations, containing 1-3% of perfume oil and generally lasts only about 1 hour away and quickly evaporate due to the high rate of alcohol. Therefore, does not smell as strong as other perfume concentrations. Eau Fraiche is usually referred to by the term Body Mist Perfume or Body Splash.
